In winter, the rose’s “operation” is simple: soil mounding in order, pots in a sheltered place, and only occasional watering at a frost-free window. Main tasks in winter

Soil mounding: 10–15 cm (20–25 cm at the edge); leave 3–5 cm of stem free – steps.
Winter watering: rarely, at a frost-free window; even less often in pots – guide.

Do not apply nitrogen in winter; start spring feeding at bud swell – timing.

How much water do roses need in winter?

In open ground, water only in prolonged dry, windy weather; at a frost-free window, water moderately; in pots, a small amount every 4–6 weeks – guide.

When should I remove the winter covering?

After persistent frosts have passed, remove it gradually – spring removal.
