Trade name SOURIRE D'ORCHIDÉE Rambling rose CROchetdit; registered as CROchetdit, ARS exhibition name Sourire d’Orchidée. The name means “the orchid’s smile” in French, reflecting its delicate, refined flower.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Paul Croix, Pépinières et Roseraies Paul Croix, France. Introduced and registered in 1985, from a cross of seedling of ‘Age Tendre’ with unknown pollen parent, belonging to the climbing rose group.
Awards and recognitions
Gold medal and Golden Rose at Geneva International Rose Competition 1985; bronze medals in Rome, Baden-Baden and The Hague rose competitions; also trialled at Monza in 1985, confirming its ornamental value.
Growth and structure
Climbing shrub rose reaching about 3–5 m high with 1,2–2 m spread. Forms flexible, trainable canes with dense, glossy, mid-green foliage and moderate prickliness, suitable for walls, pergolas and trained forms.
