ALBERTE HIT® – red dwarf-mini rose - Olesen & Olesen

If You want a compact rose that simply settles in and flowers reliably, ALBERTE HIT® is an easy choice for Irish family gardens and balconies. Its naturally bushy shape and dwarf size stay neat without complicated pruning, so You can enjoy dense, dark green foliage and glowing red blooms even in smaller spaces. Bred for container and terrace use, it thrives in pots and front beds when You give it steady moisture and reasonable drainage in our sometimes wet, heavy soils. The very double, cup-shaped flowers bring a romantic cottage feel in a modern, space-saving form, while the mild, fruity scent is pleasantly delicate rather than overpowering. As an own-root plant it establishes for the long term, quietly building a stable base for many seasons of colour. In year one it focuses on roots, year two on fuller shoots, and by year three You enjoy its complete ornamental value with minimal ongoing effort.

Use cases

Target areaReason
Small front garden border by the path The naturally compact shrub keeps its 25–35 cm height and spread, forming a tidy edging line that does not overwhelm narrow paths or driveways, ideal where You want reliable structure without frequent trimming for the busy homeowner
Terrace planter or balcony box Bred specifically for terrace and container use, it flowers well in pots when given regular watering and a minimum 40–50 litre container, creating a dense cushion of red blooms suited to exposed urban balconies and compact spaces for the city-based beginner
Neat bed near the front door The symmetrical, rounded habit and dense foliage give a finished look quickly, while own-root growth builds a durable, balanced shrub that regrows well after winter, keeping the entrance welcoming year after year for the practical gardener
Romantic cottage-style corner planting Very double, cup-shaped flowers with a rich red, slightly velvety tone bring a soft, romantic feel in small groups of three to five plants, fitting naturally with cottage perennials yet staying compact and easy to manage for the style-conscious romantic
Mixed border with perennials Its medium maintenance needs and moderate disease resistance suit mixed plantings where You want colour without high upkeep, pairing well with lupins, daylilies or low groundcovers while keeping deadheading and spraying to an occasional task for the time-pressed gardener
Partially shaded side garden strip The variety tolerates partial shade, so it will continue to produce clusters of mid-red blooms in spots that only receive part-day sun, such as east-facing side paths between houses, making awkward spaces feel finished for the practical homeowner
Coastal or windswept patio corner The low, dense, bushy structure makes it less prone to wind damage and helps it cope where breezes and humid, rainy spells combine, a good fit for Irish coastal patios where drainage and moisture control matter for the exposed gardener
Low-maintenance family seating area border Remontant flowering with a plentiful second flush means dependable colour through the season with only occasional feeding and light pruning, so the space around a seating area looks cared for without regular detailed work for the relaxed family

Decorating ideas

  • Front-Door Welcome – Plant a trio of ALBERTE HIT® along a short path with lavender and small box balls for a clean, structured entrance – ideal for homeowners wanting a smart look with little trimming.
  • Terrace Jewel Pots – Use one rose per 40–50 litre terracotta container, underplant with trailing Delosperma and white alyssum for a colourful, low cushion – perfect for balcony and patio owners who like easy, long-season colour.
  • Cottage-Style Strip – Combine short rows of ALBERTE HIT® with pink lupins and soft grasses along a fence for a romantic cottage feel – suited to rural gardeners who prefer informal charm without tall, floppy roses.
  • Family Seating Border – Edge a small terrace with alternating ALBERTE HIT® and dwarf daylilies to give repeat red and yellow waves of colour – good for families wanting a cheerful backdrop to outdoor meals.
  • Partial-Shade Nook – Brighten a side return or shaded corner by pairing ALBERTE HIT® with hostas and heucheras in wide containers – great for busy urban gardeners making the most of limited light.

Technical cultivar profile
ParameterData
Name and registration Miniature dwarf rose from the PatioHit collection; registered as POUlpah114, marketed as Alberte Hit, ALBERTE HIT and PatioHit; commercial type dwarf, mini rose for ornamental garden and terrace use.
Origin and breeding Bred by L. Pernille Olesen and Mogens Nyegaard Olesen at Poulsen Roser A/S, Denmark; breeding year 2021, introduced and registered in 2024 as a modern compact patio and balcony shrub rose.
Growth and structure Bushy, compact habit with dense, slightly glossy dark green foliage; height and spread around 25–35 cm, forming a low, rounded cushion suitable for containers, borders and small-format group plantings.
Flower morphology Very double, cluster-flowered blooms with over 40 petals per flower; medium-sized, cup-shaped blossoms borne repeatedly through the season, providing generous second flowering flushes on short, branching shoots.
Colour and phenology Uniform, radiant medium red with a slightly velvety effect; buds deep red, flowers open to mid-red with slightly lighter petal bases, colour fading only mildly so the primary tone remains attractive to the end of flowering.
Fragrance and aroma Delicate, fruity fragrance with mild intensity; scent is present but restrained, adding a gentle sensory note suited to seating areas and terraces without becoming overpowering in smaller or enclosed garden spaces.
Rose hip characteristics Occasionally forms small, spherical red hips about 7–9 mm across; ornamental but discrete, typically appearing after good pollination where spent flowers are not removed during late-summer and early-autumn.
Resistance and hardiness Hardy to approximately −26 to −23 °C (RHS H7, USDA 5b, Swedish Zone 4); moderate resistance to black spot, powdery mildew and rust, with best results under balanced watering and good air circulation in the planting area.
Horticultural recommendations Ideal for containers, terraces, balconies, beds and borders; plant 30 cm apart in groups, 25 cm for low hedging, 45 cm as solitary accents; choose well-drained soil, water containers regularly and feed lightly for repeat bloom.

ALBERTE HIT® offers compact growth, reliable repeat flowering and long-lived own-root strength in pots or borders, giving You steady red colour with modest care needs, so You can confidently choose it for everyday garden enjoyment.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
