BAD HOMBURG – cream hybrid tea rose - Liebig

If You dream of a rose that simply works in an everyday Irish garden, BAD HOMBURG is an easy-going hybrid tea that rewards You with classic, creamy blooms without demanding complicated care. Its upright, bushy habit stays naturally tidy, ideal for front gardens and neat beds where You want structure as well as flowers. On cool, damp days it keeps its polish, showing reliable health even when our weather turns wet and blustery. Each large, very double flower opens a warm butter-yellow and softens to elegant ivory, perfect for cutting and bringing indoors. The mild, refined fragrance suits close seating areas where overpowering scent is not desired. Grown on its own roots, it settles in for the long term, quietly regenerating and keeping its ornamental value stable year after year. In the first year it focuses on roots, the second on bushy shoots, and by the third it shows full beauty with generous repeat flowering. In a 2‑litre pot it arrives well-rooted and ready for You to plant, water, and then enjoy as it gradually becomes part of Your garden’s character.

Use cases

Target areaReason
Front garden feature by the entrance The upright, bushy habit stays compact and well-shaped, giving a tidy, welcoming accent that looks cared-for without much effort, ideal when You want a smart entrance but have limited gardening time for busy homeowners
Small flower bed in a family garden Reliable repeat flowering and low maintenance needs mean the bed keeps colour through the season with just basic watering and occasional deadheading, offering an easy sense of success for beginner gardeners
Cutting corner for home bouquets Large, very double, long-stemmed blooms open beautifully in a vase, so a few plants provide regular, elegant cut flowers without having to visit a florist, appealing to those who enjoy arranging flowers at home
Coastal or exposed suburban front border Good disease resistance and steady performance suit Irish sites where cool winds and frequent rain challenge weaker roses, supporting gardens that must cope with moist, breeze-swept weather for coastal gardeners
Mixed rose group of 3–5 plants Planted in a small group, the uniform creamy colouring and upright structure create a coherent, easy-care block of colour that knits together paths, lawns and beds, helping anyone shape a simple, harmonious design
Large container on patio or balcony In a 40–50 litre pot with good drainage, it becomes a long-lived, own-root patio rose that can be moved as needed, ideal for renters or balcony owners who want enduring structure without planting into the ground for flexibility
Low-maintenance family seating area The mild, unobtrusive fragrance and soft colouring create a calm backdrop near a terrace or bench, offering gentle atmosphere rather than overwhelming scent, perfect for relaxation-focused families
Cottage-style border with perennials Its stable, long-term own-root growth lets it blend with perennials in a relaxed border while still coping well with our often wet, heavy soils that need decent drainage, a reassurance for those building long-lived cottage-gardens

Decorating ideas

  • Patio cream-and-blue – Grow it in a 40–50 litre container with blue lobelia or campanula spilling over the edge – perfect for balcony and patio gardeners seeking easy glamour.
  • Cottage cream border – Combine with pink geraniums and white foxgloves for a relaxed, country feel – suited to those creating a romantic, low-fuss cottage garden.
  • Calm seating corner – Position near a bench alongside rosemary and soft grasses for a soothing, subtly scented nook – great for families who want a restful outdoor space.
  • Cut-flower strip – Line a narrow bed with BAD HOMBURG and underplant with catmint to supply vases with creamy roses and airy blue – ideal for creative gardeners who enjoy arranging home-grown flowers.

Technical cultivar profile
ParameterData
Name and registration Hybrid tea rose; registered as PLAcharm, marketed as BAD HOMBURG – cream hybrid tea rose - Liebig. Belongs to the Hybrid Tea commercial group and approved exhibition name is Bad Homburg.
Origin and breeding Bred by Ewald Liebig in Germany from ‘Goldina’ × (‘Arthur Bell’ × ‘Prominent’). Introduced and registered in 1997, first distributed by Pflanzen-Kontor in the German market.
Growth and structure Upright, bushy shrub reaching about 80–110 cm high and 50–70 cm wide. Moderately thorny canes carry dense, dark green, slightly glossy foliage that gives the plant a full, substantial presence.
Flower morphology Large, very double, cup-shaped blooms with 40+ petals, usually borne singly on stems. Remontant, with a generous second flush that keeps the plant flowering repeatedly across the main season.
Colour and phenology Warm creamy butter-yellow buds open to cream-white outer petals and a soft lemon-yellow centre, then fade to ivory–porcelain white with a pastel heart. Colour holds well and lightens gradually rather than blotching.
Fragrance and aroma Mild, refined scent with an elegant but restrained character, noticeable at close range without dominating nearby seating or windows. Suitable where a gentle background fragrance is preferred.
Rose hip characteristics Occasionally forms small spherical rose hips, about 9–15 mm across, in an orange-red shade. Decorative in a modest way and generally not produced in large quantities.
Resistance and hardiness Good general disease resistance, with notable resistance to powdery mildew, black spot and rust. Hardy to around -21 to -18 °C (H7, USDA 6b, Swedish Zone 3), suitable for most Irish garden conditions.
Horticultural recommendations Best as a flower bed or specimen rose, also suitable for cut flowers. Plant 60 cm apart for masses, 50 cm for a hedge, or 100 cm as a solitary. For containers, use at least 40–50 litres with good drainage.

BAD HOMBURG offers long-lasting creamy blooms, dependable disease resistance and a tidy shape, and as an own-root rose it establishes for years of low-effort enjoyment, making it a thoughtful choice if You want a reliable, elegant garden rose.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
