Trade name Elodie Gossuin Générosa® MASelgo, registered as MASelgo. Part of the Générosa® romantic shrub group, commercial type nostalgia rose, marketed as a pink nostalgic shrub for gardens.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Dominique Massad for Roseraies Guillot in France, before 2007. Registered 2007 and introduced 2008, within the Générosa® collection of Romantica shrub roses aimed at garden and cut-flower use.
Growth and structure
Upright shrub 70–95 cm tall with 50–70 cm spread. Dense, well-furnished bush with moderately thorny stems. Foliage is slightly glossy, olive-green, giving good cover and a tidy, compact overall appearance.
Flower morphology
Very double, rosette-shaped blooms with more than 40 petals in corymbose clusters of 3–5 flowers per stem. Large-flowered (about 2.75–3.95 in), with strong remontant flowering and an abundant second flush in season.
Colour and phenology
Rich, warm deep pink overall. Buds are dark pink with slightly purple tips, opening to vivid bright pink outer petals and softer warm-pink centres, later fading to pastel pink with paler heart and deeper outer ring.
Fragrance and aroma
Strong, distinctive scent with a fresh, fruity character noticeable at a short distance. Primarily an ornamental cultivar, but its fragrance makes it attractive for planting near paths, doors and seating areas.
Rose hip characteristics
Rose hips form poorly due to very double flowers. When present they are small, ellipsoidal, about 7–9 mm, in an orange-red shade, and of minor ornamental significance compared with the showy repeat flowering.
