FLORENCE DELATTRE – purple bedding shrub rose - Massad

If You would love a romantic, gently old‑fashioned rose that still feels reassuringly reliable, Florence Delattre is a bushy, generously flowering shrub that settles happily into Irish family gardens without demanding complicated care. Its pastel, smoky colour tones of lilac, cream and lavender bring a distinctive cottage‑garden charm, while the strong, spicy fragrance creates a classic rose‑garden feel each time You pass the bed or step out your front door. Bred for good disease resistance, it copes well with our humid weather and the kind of frequent rain that can challenge fussier varieties, needing only simple pruning and the removal of spent blooms. This modern shrub rose flowers in clusters for cutting and is suitable for specimen planting or mixed borders, giving You both garden impact and vase‑worthy stems. As an own‑root rose in the pharmaROSA® ORIGINAL 2‑litre pot, it arrives well‑rooted and ready to plant, gradually building a stable, long‑lived bush that fits naturally into beds around the home. Over the first year it concentrates on rooting, in the second it gains visible height and branching, and by the third it presents its full ornamental value with confident flowering and balanced growth. With regular watering in dry spells and decent drainage, You can simply plant it, let it grow and enjoy its easy‑care beauty season after season.

Use cases

Target area Reason
Front garden focal shrub Bushy, upright growth to 120–160 cm makes Florence Delattre ideal as a single feature near an entrance or bay window, giving height, scent and a soft, romantic look that stays manageable for beginners
Flower beds around the home The pastel grey‑lilac blooms with creamy centres blend easily with most house colours and perennials, creating a calm, elegant border effect without clashing tones, well suited to family gardens wanting gentle harmony for homeowners
Small groups of 3 shrubs Planting three bushes at 100 cm spacing quickly forms a generously flowering mass that covers soil and reduces bare patches, providing a neat, full look with simple maintenance routines for busy
Cottage‑style mixed borders The semi‑double, cupped flowers and slightly nostalgic colouring pair naturally with cottage companions like lamb’s ear or hardy perennials, giving an informal yet coordinated style for lovers of romantic
Cut‑flower corner in the garden Clustered medium blooms on good stems supply scented, lilac‑toned flowers for the vase over a long season, so You can pick regularly without spoiling the shrub’s overall look, ideal for those who enjoy bouquets
Part‑shaded side borders This variety tolerates partial shade, so it can brighten side paths or north‑easterly aspects where full‑sun roses may struggle, especially in damp, soft‑light Irish gardens, offering options for more challenging spots
Low‑maintenance family planting Good resistance to black spot, mildew and rust means fewer sprays and less worry, even in wetter Irish summers with frequent showers and lingering humidity, providing peace of mind and less work for learners
Large containers on patios In a minimum 40–50 litre pot with regular watering, this shrub makes a handsome patio feature, its height and scent drawing attention while own‑root growth keeps the plant long‑lived and resilient for urban balconies

Technical cultivar profile
Property Data
Name and registration Modern shrub rose from the Générosa collection, registered as MASflodel. Marketed as Florence Delattre Générosa® MASflodel, with Florence Delattre as the American Rose Society exhibition name.
Origin and breeding Bred by Dominique Massad in France from the cross Rêve d’Or × Magenta (Kordes, 1954). Developed in 1991, introduced and registered in 1997 by Les Roses de Dominique Massad and distributed by Guillot.
Growth and structure Bushy shrub 120–160 cm high and 90–130 cm wide, with dense, glossy dark green foliage and moderate thorns. Spent flowers are not strongly self‑cleaning and benefit from regular deadheading to keep the plant tidy.
Flower morphology Semi‑double, cupped blooms with 13–25 petals, medium sized at about 4–7 cm. Flowers are borne in clusters and repeat well, offering a generous second flush when deadheaded promptly and given basic feeding.
Colour and phenology Pale mauve‑lilac base with greyish‑lilac overtones and a creamy yellow centre. Buds open lilac‑pink then soften to lavender and pastel grey‑lilac, with colour holding best in cooler, softer light rather than hot, strong sun.
Fragrance and aroma Strong, pronounced scent with a spicy, rose‑oil character that is easily noticeable near paths and seating. Semi‑double flowers moderately attract pollinators, offering some benefit without being a primary wildlife planting.
Rose hip characteristics Produces moderately abundant, small spherical red hips about 8–12 mm in diameter. Hips have ornamental value in late season if flowers are not deadheaded, adding extra seasonal interest to the shrub.
Resistance and hardiness Rated resistant to powdery mildew, black spot and rust. Hardy to about −26 to −23 °C (H7, USDA 5b, Swedish zone 4). Needs regular watering in dry periods and does not tolerate prolonged drought or heat stress.
Horticultural recommendations Suited to flower beds, specimen use and cutting. Allow 90–100 cm in beds, up to 180 cm as a specimen. Grows well in partial shade with reasonable drainage; respond with light pruning and deadheading to encourage repeat bloom.

Florence Delattre offers romantic lilac blooms, strong fragrance and reliable disease resistance on a long‑lived own‑root shrub that settles steadily into Irish gardens, making it a reassuring choice if You would like an easy, rewarding rose to plant now.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
