Loraine™ Renaissance® – orange-pink nostalgic shrub rose

This romantically cupped shrub rose brings a soft orange-pink glow to beds and borders, with large, very double blooms carried in charming clusters from summer into autumn. You get a compact, well-foliaged shrub that fits easily into an average Irish family garden, ideal for front paths, cottage-style beds and terrace planters where you want colour without complex pruning. Its medium height and tidy spread make it edging-friendly, while the long-lasting flowers are perfect for cutting into vases at home. Strong, lingering fragrance adds a classic, romantic feel around windows and seating areas, especially on still evenings. As an own-root rose it matures steadily, giving you a long-lived planting that copes reliably with our damp, fungal-prone climate when you combine it with basic rose care. In year one it concentrates on roots, year two on stronger shoots, and by year three it settles into its full ornamental value as a stable, characterful feature in your garden.

Use cases

Target areaReason
Front garden feature rose The compact habit and 60–85 cm height make Loraine™ Renaissance® ideal for near-the-door planting where you want a neat, reliable presence that will not swamp paths or windows, giving beginners confidence with a clearly structured, easy-to-place shrub for the family-gardener
Romantic cottage-style border Very double, cup-shaped blooms in soft orange-pink tones bring an old-world, romantic look that slips naturally into cottage borders with foxgloves, hardy geraniums and catmint, making it a good choice if you dream of a traditional country-garden feel for the cottage-garden-lover
Small rose group of 3–5 plants Planting a small group at the recommended spacings creates a low, flowering mound, helping to cover soil and visually anchor a bed; the own-root plants develop into a long-term, balanced group with even shape and bloom display for the planning-conscious
Patio or terrace container In a 40–50 litre container with good drainage, this compact shrub gives you a contained burst of nostalgic colour and scent close to seating, suiting smaller spaces and renters who want a movable rose rather than a permanent bed planting for the balcony-owner
Cut-flower corner in a family garden The large, very double blooms on clustered stems are easy to cut for the house, bringing their strong, lingering scent indoors without stripping the plant bare, ideal for a modest home cutting patch that still looks decorative outside for the home-florist
Low divider between lawn and path Its compact, moderately thorny framework and dense, glossy foliage allow you to line a path or lawn edge with a soft but defined boundary, giving structure without heavy clipping and blending well with clipped lavender or small box forms for the structure-seeker
Accent rose in mixed shrub planting The glossy, dense foliage and sleek, rounded form contrast well with looser shrubs and perennials, making this variety a good “anchor” plant in mixed beds, especially where you want a reliable, repeat-blooming focal point for the design-minded
Sheltered, sunny urban front garden In a warm, sunny spot with decent drainage it flowers generously, and as an own-root shrub it forms a durable, regenerating base that copes steadily with our humid, disease-prone weather when you follow regular spraying routines for the busy-beginner

Decorating ideas

  • COTTAGE GATEWAY – Plant Loraine™ Renaissance® in pairs by a garden gate with foxgloves and hardy geraniums for a storybook welcome – ideal for lovers of traditional Irish cottage entrances
  • SOFT TERRACE POT – Use one plant in a 40–50 litre clay pot with trailing ivy and white bacopa to frame a seating area – perfect for small patios and balconies
  • ROMANTIC BED RIBBON – Arrange three roses in a curve along a path, underplant with lavender and catmint for scent and soft edging – suited to low-maintenance family gardens
  • WINDOW-VIEW FOCUS – Place a single shrub opposite a key window, backed by hydrangeas, so the orange-pink clusters and fragrance can be enjoyed from indoors – good for busy homeowners
  • MIXED SHRUB TAPESTRY – Combine with compact spiraea, dwarf conifers and ornamental grasses so its nostalgic blooms pop against varied foliage – ideal for design-focused beginners

Technical cultivar profile
PropertyData
Name and registration Renaissance® shrub rose from the Romantic rose group, registered as POUlren046 and marketed as Loraine™ Renaissance® POUlren046, a nostalgia-type orange-pink garden rose for ornamental use.
Origin and breeding Bred in Denmark by L. Pernille Olesen and Mogens Nyegaard Olesen at Poulsen Roser A/S, parentage unknown, with European plant variety protection and first introduced to the market in 2021.
Growth and structure Compact shrub 60–85 cm high and 50–75 cm wide, moderately thorny shoots, with dense, glossy foliage coloured RHS 147A, forming a rounded, bushy outline suitable for beds, borders and containers.
Flower morphology Large, very double, cup-shaped blooms with more than 40 petals, borne in clusters; remontant with a generous second flush, suitable for cutting while still leaving good garden display through the season.
Colour and phenology Dominant clear orange-pink tone; buds deep coral-salmon with warm orange, opening to vivid coral-peach centres that fade to peach–powder pink, with a delicate golden sheen and paler, pinkish outer petal rims.
Fragrance and aroma Rated as very strongly scented with a long-lasting perfume; detailed fragrance notes are not recorded, but the intensity makes it suitable for planting near seating areas, entrances and paths.
Rose hip characteristics Rose hips are expected to form sparsely due to the very double flowers; where present they are small, generally under 5 mm in diameter, with limited ornamental or wildlife value.
Resistance and hardiness Hardy to approximately −21 to −18 °C (RHS H7, USDA 6b, Swedish zone 3); flowers well in warmth but needs watering in prolonged drought, and is very susceptible to black spot, mildew and rust, requiring regular protection.
Horticultural recommendations Best in sunny positions with well-drained soil; spacing about 60 cm in beds and 90 cm as a specimen; suitable for flowerbeds, hedging lines, cut flowers, terraces and large containers from 40–50 litres with regular feeding and care.

Loraine™ Renaissance® is a compact, fragrant, nostalgically flowered shrub rose that suits small gardens and containers, and as an own-root plant it offers long-term, regenerating beauty with straightforward care, making it a reassuring choice for your next planting.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
