Registered as NOZomi, marketed as Nozomi™ Groundcover NOZomi; miniature groundcover and shrub-type rose used as a spreading groundcover. The name is Japanese, meaning “hope”.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Tōru Onodera in Japan; cross of ‘Fairy Princess’ × ‘Sweet Fairy’. Introduced and registered in 1968, representing an early, influential ground-cover rose selection.
Growth and structure
Low, spreading habit 35–65 cm high and 80–160 cm wide. Dense, mid-green, glossy foliage with moderate prickles; forms a broad, ground-hugging mat suited to covering soil and softening edges.
Flower morphology
Small single flowers, 0.5–1.5 inches across, flat and open, borne in clusters. Petal count typically 5–12; non-remontant, producing one main, showy flush per season.
Colour and phenology
Pearlescent pale pink overall. Buds soft pink, almost white at tips; freshly opened flowers shell-pink with paler edge, fading towards white with a light cream tone and a soft pink centre glow.
Fragrance and aroma
