ORIGAMI ® – cream-red bedding floribunda rose – Meilland Richardier
If You enjoy neat, graphic-looking roses, ORIGAMI ® is a real talking point for Your front garden or balcony. Its angular, star-like blooms fold and crease like paper, giving a modern twist to a classic floribunda. Clusters of medium-sized, cream and red bicoloured flowers appear in generous flushes all summer, adding real drama to beds, borders and larger containers. As an own-root plant in the pharmaROSA® ORIGINAL 2-litre pot, it will settle in steadily and reward You for years, gradually building roots, then shoots, then full display over three seasons. Once established it copes well with summer heat and short dry spells, while the compact, bushy habit makes it easy to place in smaller Irish gardens with limited space. It performs reliably in ordinary garden soil as long as You take care with drainage in heavier clay, and with its dense, dark green foliage it looks lush even between main flowering flushes. A medal-winning, premium choice for gardeners who like something a little different but still manageable.
Freshly opened Origami® bloom with cream-white petals edged in vivid red.
Use cases
Target area
Reason
Front garden statement bed by the entrance
The unusual, star-shaped bicolour flowers create an eye-catching focal point that looks carefully designed without needing advanced planting plans, ideal where You want impact from the road or path with a relatively compact bush rose that stays in proportion for a small Irish front plot, perfect for the busy beginner
Small rose group in a family flower bed
Plant 3–5 bushes together at the recommended spacing for a full, bushy cluster that carries many blooms at once; the floribunda habit delivers repeat flowering so the group looks lively for most of the summer, suiting families who want a dependable, long-term rose corner that will mature steadily over several years, ideal for the home gardener
Feature rose in a large patio container
In a 40–50 litre container with good quality compost and drainage, ORIGAMI ® forms a dense, upright bush that shows off its graphic flowers at eye level; the compact spread makes it easy to combine with trailing or low companion plants on a terrace or urban balcony, highly suitable for those with limited ground space who still want a focal rose, ideal for the city dweller
Mixed border with perennials and grasses
The cream-red bicolour flowers blend beautifully with companions such as Echinacea, Monarda or airy Panicum grasses, so the rose can sit naturally in a more informal cottage or prairie-style border; its repeated flushes of bloom provide colour continuity among perennials that peak at different times, well suited to gardeners seeking a soft, romantic look, perfect for the cottage-garden fan
Sunny to lightly shaded family seating area
ORIGAMI ® tolerates partial shade, so it can brighten spots that receive only morning or late afternoon sun, such as around a patio table or beside a path; the steady flowering habit means there is often something to admire when You sit outside after work, making it a good choice for lived-in, multi-use family spaces, ideal for the relaxed owner
Heat-exposed beds near walls or paving
The variety tolerates heat and, once established, moderate drought, so it copes better beside south-facing walls or paving that reflect warmth; regular watering in containers or in the first seasons after planting is still needed, but the rose will then carry on through warm spells without collapsing, particularly helpful for gardens that experience warm, drying summers, suited to the practical planner
Long-term planting in a permanent rose border
As an own-root rose, ORIGAMI ® gradually forms its final bush shape in situ, allowing it to recover more predictably from pruning and minor damage over the years and maintain a stable look in a dedicated rose bed, a good option if You are building a collection You expect to enjoy for a long time, well suited to the forward-thinking gardener
Well-prepared bed in heavier Irish clay soils
In regions where heavier soils dominate, ORIGAMI ® performs reliably when planted into a bed improved with organic matter and drainage, helping the roots to establish securely so the bush remains healthy and floriferous even in wet spells, particularly valuable where You must manage rainfall and soil moisture thoughtfully, ideal for the realistic beginner
Decorating ideas
Graphic Front Border – line the front of a bed with 3 ORIGAMI ® plants and underplant with low lavender for a precise, design-led edge – for style-conscious homeowners who like clean lines.
Cottage Contrast Corner – combine ORIGAMI ® with Monarda and soft pink geraniums in a small corner bed for a lively, romantic mix of shapes and colours – for fans of relaxed cottage gardens.
Patio Feature Pot – plant a single ORIGAMI ® in a 40–50 litre terracotta pot and ring it with trailing thyme or calibrachoa for a lush yet manageable terrace feature – for balcony and patio gardeners.
Perennial Ribbon – weave a short row of ORIGAMI ® through a border of Echinacea ‘Delicious Nougat’ and airy Panicum ‘Sangria’ for a long-season, textural ribbon of colour – for gardeners who enjoy mixed plantings.
Family Seating Backdrop – place a small group of ORIGAMI ® behind a bench or outdoor dining area where their repeat blooms provide a cheerful, photo-friendly backdrop – for families who entertain outdoors.
Technical cultivar profile
Property
Data
Name and registration
Floribunda bed rose from the Classics collection. Registered cultivar name MEImozahiq, trade name Origami ®. Also exhibited under the name Origami in floribunda and bush rose exhibition classes.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Michèle Meilland Richardier, Meilland International, France. Breeding completed in 1999, introduced to the market in 2015 by Meilland Richardier. Parentage is officially recorded as unknown.
Awards and recognitions
Gold Medal and Rose Hills Trophy for best floribunda at the Australian National Rose Trial Garden, Adelaide (2010). Silver Medal at the Tokyo International Rose & Gardening Show, Japan, plus further recognition in Saint Feliu.
Growth and structure
Compact, bushy shrub reaching about 70–90 cm in height with a 40–60 cm spread. Moderately thorny stems carry dense, slightly glossy, dark green foliage, creating a full, well-branched outline suited to beds and containers.
Flower morphology
Densely double blooms with more than 40 petals, produced in clusters on floribunda-style stems. Flowers are medium sized, around 4–7 cm across, with a distinctive cup-shaped to star-shaped, origami-like form that holds its shape well.
Colour and phenology
Bicoloured flowers with a cream-white base and vivid red edging. Buds are creamy with red tips; colours soften as blooms age and fade more in strong sun. Repeat flowering with plentiful second flushes over the main growing season.
Fragrance and aroma
Fragrance is very weak and often barely noticeable, so it is primarily chosen for its striking visual effect rather than scent. Best used where colour and flower form are the main design priorities in the planting scheme.
Rose hip characteristics
Due to its very double flowers, hip set is usually sparse. When present, it produces small, spherical orange-red hips around 8–12 mm in diameter, with limited ornamental value compared to the main flowering display.
Resistance and hardiness
Very susceptible to powdery mildew, black spot and rust, so regular, proactive plant protection is recommended. Hardy to approximately −21 to −18 °C (USDA zone 6b, RHS H7, Swedish zone 3) with good tolerance of summer heat and moderate drought.
Horticultural recommendations
Best in well-drained, humus-rich soil with regular feeding and watering while establishing. Suitable for beds, borders, containers and small gardens; use at 30–55 cm spacing depending on effect, and monitor closely for disease to maintain foliage.
ORIGAMI ® offers striking bicolour, star-shaped blooms on a compact floribunda bush that repeats well, settles long term as an own-root plant and suits smaller beds or containers, making it a thoughtful choice if You enjoy tending a distinctive rose.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
