Floribunda bedding rose registered as ZENfuyumemu, marketed as Yumemurasaki – purple bedding floribunda rose. American Rose Society approved exhibition name: Yumemurasaki.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Takashi Kawai in Japan, introduced and registered in 2009 by Perennial Co., Ltd. Parentage is unknown; developed as a floribunda bed rose for ornamental garden use.
Growth and structure
Upright, medium-height shrub reaching about 95–125 cm with a 60–80 cm spread. Moderately dense, slightly glossy mid-green foliage and moderate prickliness create a tidy but substantial garden presence.
Flower morphology
Cluster-flowered floribunda with medium-sized, 1.5–2.75 inch, very double, cup-shaped blooms. Over 40 petals per flower. Remontant, producing an abundant second flush and further waves in suitable conditions.
Colour and phenology
Mid-purple with a subtle pinkish tone, buds deep viola-lilac. Opens to clear purple, then lightens to greyish-lilac with a silvery, powdery edge, especially vivid in cool weather and softening slightly in warmth.
Fragrance and aroma
Very strong, garden-filling scent with a fresh, citrusy character. Highly noticeable around paths and seating areas. Blooms are primarily ornamental and very double, so they offer limited attraction for pollinators.
