Origin and breeding
Bred by Tim-Hermann Kordes in Germany from an own seedling clone crossed with ‘KORpauvio’. Developed by W. Kordes’ Söhne Rosenschulen and introduced to the market in 2015.
Growth and structure
Upright hybrid tea with dense, dark green, glossy foliage. Typical height 85–115 cm, spread 70–90 cm. Moderately thorny shoots and a bushy habit suited to specimen use or small group plantings.
Flower morphology
Large, 2.75–3.95 inch, high-centred hybrid tea blooms with pointed buds. Very double with more than 40 petals, borne mainly solitary on stems, ideal for cutting and classic rose displays.
Colour and phenology
Deep velvety crimson-red with purplish undertones. Colour holds excellently, darkening to claret with subtle violet edging as blooms mature. Repeat flowering throughout the season with a strong second flush.
Fragrance and aroma
Medium-strength, clearly perceptible scent with a full, fruity character. Fragrance is noticeable both on the plant and in the vase, adding to its value as a cut flower and garden feature.
Rose hip characteristics
Rose hip set is limited due to very double blooms and regular deadheading. When present, hips are 8–12 mm, ellipsoidal, red and mainly ornamental rather than significant for wildlife or decoration.
Resistance and hardiness
Good general disease resistance: resistant to black spot and rust, moderate against powdery mildew. Winter hardy to about -26 to -23 °C (H7, USDA 5b). Tolerates heat and short dry spells with watering.
Horticultural recommendations
Best in well-drained soil with regular feeding and watering. Suitable for beds, specimen planting, hedging modules and large containers. Responds well to deadheading and standard hybrid tea pruning in late winter.
