BURGUNDY™ – burgundy hybrid tea rose - Tanjga

If You would like a rose that looks luxurious but behaves reliably in an ordinary Irish family garden, BURGUNDY™ is an easy choice. Its compact, neat hybrid tea habit fits smaller beds and front gardens, while the deep wine-red blooms bring a genuinely romantic touch to paths, porches and cottage-style borders. In Ireland’s moist climate, where good soil preparation helps manage persistent humidity and heavy ground, this own-root shrub settles in steadily and forms a dense, balanced bush. The 2‑litre plant arrives well rooted, so You simply plant, water and let it grow. In year one it builds roots, in year two stronger shoots, and by year three You see its full ornamental value. Its compact height suits containers and edging just as well as beds, giving You an orderly framework for other perennials. With regular deadheading it repeat-flowers generously, providing a season-long display of velvety burgundy blooms that look as elegant in the vase as they do in the garden.

Use cases

Target area Reason
Front garden focal point near the entrance Compact, upright growth (40–60 cm) and dense foliage create a tidy, welcoming accent beside paths or doorways without blocking windows, suiting busy homeowners who want impact with modest upkeep for beginners
Small rose bed in a family garden Its medium maintenance level and steady repeat flowering give a long season of colour without advanced pruning skills, ideal for small mixed beds where You want a dependable backbone rose that quietly performs for hobby-gardeners
Container planting on patio or balcony (40–50 litre minimum) The compact habit and sparse thorns suit a large pot by seating areas; in a 40–50 litre container roots have room to develop, keeping the plant stable and attractive for years, convenient for space-limited urban garden-owners
Low edging along paths or driveways Recommended spacing of 35–40 cm allows a continuous, low hedge of burgundy blooms that stays within about 60 cm high, giving structure and colour to paths while remaining easy to reach for light trimming for busy-families
Cutting patch for home bouquets Hybrid tea form with solitary, medium-sized double flowers produces elegant stems for the vase; reliable repeat flowering means regular cutting from summer to autumn for those who enjoy arranging flowers at home for rose-lovers
Small group planting (1–5 shrubs) in a cottage-style border Planted in a loose group, the rich burgundy tones echo traditional cottage gardens and pair beautifully with soft perennials, allowing a romantic look without complex design plans for country-gardeners
Mixed border with shrubs and perennials Own-root growth helps the bush adapt to local soil and care, forming a stable shape that weaves well among perennials and small shrubs, gradually maturing into a long-lived, low-fuss structural element for long-term-planners
Coastal or windy front gardens with improved drainage Hardiness to about -18 °C and robust shrub structure cope with exposed Irish conditions when planted in well-prepared, free-draining soil that copes better with persistent rain and damp air, reassuring for coastal-area homeowners

Decorating ideas

  • COTTAGE RIM – Plant a short row of BURGUNDY™ along a low picket fence and intersperse with dwarf French marigold for a warm, informal edge – ideal for lovers of relaxed cottage style.
  • EVENING PATIO – Grow one shrub in a 50 litre terracotta pot with trailing parsley at the rim, placing it by outdoor seating so You can enjoy the subtle fragrance – perfect for apartment or small-terrace gardeners.
  • FORMAL ACCENT – Use three roses in a triangle at the centre of a small square bed, underplanting with low box or hardy herbs to frame the velvety blooms – suited to those who like a smart, orderly front garden.
  • BURGUNDY BORDER – Combine a short line of these roses with Hidcote St John’s wort and soft grasses to create a textural, low-maintenance boundary – good for family gardens needing structure without fuss.
  • ROMANTIC CUTTING – Dedicate a narrow strip for several BURGUNDY™ bushes purely for cutting, pairing with pastel perennials for filler stems – made for home flower enthusiasts who want reliable stems for vases.

Technical cultivar profile
Parameter Data
Name and registration Hybrid tea rose from the Vaza collection; registered as BOZvaz017, traded as Burgundy™ Vaza® BOZvaz017, premium silver rated cultivar for garden and cutting use.
Origin and breeding Bred by Biljana Bozanić Tanjga at PhenoGeno Roses; introduced in 2022 as a modern hybrid tea with compact habit and deep burgundy flowers for garden and cut use.
Growth and structure Compact shrub, about 40–60 cm high and 35–55 cm wide, with dense, slightly glossy mid-green foliage and sparse thorns; suitable for edging, small beds and containers.
Flower morphology Medium-sized, double, cupped hybrid tea blooms with 26–39 petals; mainly solitary on stems, reliably repeat-flowering with a generous second flush under normal garden care.
Colour and phenology Deep, velvety burgundy flowers with dark crimson buds; colour holds very well, fading only slightly to a smoky red tone as blooms age, maintaining an even dark appearance.
Fragrance and aroma Mild, subtle rose fragrance with a soft character; noticeable when blooms are close but not overpowering, making it comfortable near seating areas and entrances.
Rose hip characteristics Hip set is usually limited due to the double flowers; occasional small, globular orange-red hips around 10–14 mm in diameter may form if deadheading is not carried out.
Resistance and hardiness Hardy to around -21 to -18 °C (H7, USDA 6b); disease resistance is moderate to powdery mildew, black spot and rust, benefitting from basic preventive care in damp seasons.
Horticultural recommendations Recommended for beds, edging, containers and cutting; plant at 35–40 cm in groups or 60 cm as a specimen, in well-drained soil with regular watering, feeding and occasional disease checks.

BURGUNDY™ offers compact growth, rich repeat-flowering colour and neat front-garden structure, and as an own-root rose it establishes into a long-lived, dependable shrub; it may suit You well if You prefer beautiful results from simple care.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
