DAUPHINE™ floribunda bedding rose from the Bedding rose collection; trade name Dauphine™ Bedding rose Gaujard, exhibition floribunda/shrub rose category, unregistered but authenticated for pharmarosa.ie.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Jean-Marie Gaujard, Roseraies Gaujard, Lyon, France. Parentage: unknown seedling crossed with ‘Opera’ seedling. Introduced in the 1955/56 season and still grown as a classic garden floribunda.
Growth and structure
Upright, bushy floribunda rose, typically 85–115 cm high with a 60–80 cm spread. Moderately thorny shoots carry dense, dark-green, glossy foliage that forms a full, balanced shrub for beds and mixed borders.
Flower morphology
Large, cupped, very double flowers with more than 40 petals, carried in clusters. Remontant habit with free flowering and an abundant second flush, especially when regularly deadheaded and well fed.
Colour and phenology
Vivid cyclamen to raspberry-pink blooms; outer petals lighter, inner petals deeper. Colour softens to burgundy-raspberry with powdery pink edges as flowers age. Good colour retention across the flowering season.
Fragrance and aroma
Fragrance is very weak and subtle, with a delicate rosy character rather than a strong perfume. Best chosen for colour display and bedding effect rather than for scent-focused plantings or fragrant rose collections.
