AUSSAUCER – peach-coloured English rose – Austin

If You dream of a romantic English rose that simply settles in and performs, AUSSAUCER (Evelyn) is a beautifully formed, upright shrub with dense foliage and sumptuous, rosette blooms in warm peach shades that gently blush to pink as the season goes on. Its very strong, richly fruity garden scent makes even a small Irish front garden feel like a scented haven, while its bushy structure works well in beds, borders or as a stand-out specimen. As an own-root plant, it matures steadily, giving You a reliable framework that copes well with our damp climate and the humidity pressure on foliage. Plant in sun, keep the soil reasonably drained, and enjoy repeat flowering from early summer onwards, with generous second flushes. In year one it concentrates on roots, by year two You see stronger shoots, and by year three it reaches its full romantic character in your garden.

Use cases

Target area Reason
Front garden statement shrub near the entrance The upright, bushy structure and 120–190 cm height create an immediate focal point without taking over the whole space, giving You a neat yet generous rose presence in an average Irish front garden, especially suitable for the busy homeowner
Small rose groups of 3–5 plants in a mixed border Recommended spacings (about 70 cm in mass plantings) allow You to build compact groups that fill out steadily; own-root plants adapt to your soil and care routine, forming a long-lived, balanced shrub line ideal for the relaxed family gardener
Romantic, fragrant seating area by a patio or terrace The very strong, richly fruity fragrance and repeat-flowering habit provide continuous scent around seating areas, so even a single plant near a bench or patio door turns everyday moments into scented pauses, ideal for the evening-loving couple
Cut-flower corner for home arrangements Medium-sized, very full, rosette blooms with 40+ petals make luxurious stems for vases; regular picking also encourages further flowering, giving You a practical, easy-care source of home-grown bouquets, perfect for the creative flower lover
Feature rose in cottage-style or rural garden beds The peach to pink-toned colour and softly cupped form blend beautifully with perennials like columbine or coneflower, creating a traditional cottage look that still fits the “plant it and it works” approach many rural Irish gardeners prefer
Sunny, sheltered coastal front garden Hardiness to about -23 °C and reliable shrub structure combine well with a position that offers protection from the strongest Atlantic winds, while coping with our often wet, heavy soils where good drainage helps foliage in constant damp conditions
Large container on balcony, terrace, or paved area In a minimum 40–50 litre container with quality compost, AUSSAUCER forms a manageable, upright shrub that can be placed where scent and colour are most enjoyed, providing a flexible option for paved or rented spaces valued by urban balcony owners
Long-term family garden planting with gradual build-up Own-root plants regenerate from their base and shape themselves in place, so over several years the shrub thickens rather than tiring, giving You a stable, low-maintenance feature that suits a long-lived, evolving family garden for the patient beginner

Decorating ideas

  • Cottage Border Charm – Combine AUSSAUCER with columbine and feverfew in a loose, cottage-style strip along a path, letting the peach blooms and dark green foliage knit the planting together – ideal for lovers of relaxed country gardens
  • Scented Front Welcome – Place one or two shrubs each side of your front door, underplanted with lavender for year-round structure and extra fragrance, to create a simple but impressive welcome – suited to busy homeowners
  • Peach Tones Mixed Bed – Thread AUSSAUCER through a mixed bed with soft pink hydrangeas and pale grasses so its colour shift from peach to pink ties the planting together – perfect for those who enjoy gentle, romantic schemes
  • Cut-Flower Nook – Dedicate a small, sunny corner with AUSSAUCER and companion perennials such as coneflower, giving You long stems for vases and textural fillers beside them – great for home florists and hobby arrangers
  • Container Courtyard Focus – Grow AUSSAUCER in a 40–50 litre terracotta pot with trailing thyme at the rim, placing it where You sit most, so scent and colour lift a compact paved area – ideal for apartment and townhouse gardeners

Technical cultivar profile
Parameter Data
Name and registration Registered as AUSsaucer, marketed as Aussaucer English Rose AUSsaucer, with the exhibition name Evelyn; part of the English Rose Collection and classified as a modern shrub, romantic English rose type.
Origin and breeding Bred by David C. H. Austin in the United Kingdom in 1991 from ‘Graham Thomas’ × ‘Tamora’; registered in 1992 and introduced after 1992 by David Austin Roses Limited to represent his early English roses.
Awards and recognitions Holds the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (2001) and has received multiple American and Canadian show awards as a modern shrub rose, confirming decorative and garden performance value.
Growth and structure Upright, bushy shrub reaching about 120–190 cm high and 80–140 cm wide, with dense, slightly glossy dark green foliage and moderate thorns, forming a substantial yet manageable presence in beds or as a specimen.
Flower morphology Very full, rosette-shaped blooms with more than 40 petals, usually borne singly on stems; medium flower size around 4–7 cm gives generous, layered heads that suit both garden display and cutting for indoor arrangements.
Colour and phenology Warm peach flowers with a pink veil; buds open vibrant peach-yellow, then soften to pastel peach-pink with ivory edges, and later fade towards pink, with colour lightening in strong sun yet still offering repeat flushes.
Fragrance and aroma Exceptionally strong, richly fruity scent that can fill the surrounding garden area; ideal for planting near paths, doors or seating to enjoy its perfume, though heavily double flowers give limited value for pollinators.
Rose hip characteristics Because of its very double blooms, hips are infrequent; when formed they are ellipsoidal, orange-red, around 12–19 mm in diameter, and mainly of ornamental interest rather than for wildlife or culinary use.
Resistance and hardiness Hardy to about -26 to -23 °C (RHS H7, USDA 5b, Swedish Zone 4); shows resistant black spot performance with medium tolerance to powdery mildew and rust, needing standard rose care in humid, wet seasons.
Horticultural recommendations Best in full sun with well-drained soil; medium maintenance with occasional pest and disease checks; allow roughly 70 cm in mass plantings, 60 cm for hedging, and about 110 cm when grown as a solitary specimen.

AUSSAUCER offers richly scented, peach-toned blooms on an upright, long-lived shrub that adapts as an own-root rose, giving You reliable flowering and a stable feature for years; consider it if You would like a romantic, easy-care English rose.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
