FRAU DR. SCHRICKER – pink historic China rose - Felberg-Leclerc
If You are looking for a rose that quietly fits into Your life and garden routine, FRAU DR. SCHRICKER brings historic charm together with genuinely easy care. This compact China shrub rose flowers repeatedly, giving waves of richly scented, raspberry‑pink blooms that soften to romantic, old‑rose tones, creating a consistently colourful front garden focus without complicated pruning. Its disease resistant foliage stays healthy even in damp Irish weather, coping well where summers can be cool and wet with heavier soils that need careful drainage planning. Planted as a small group or a single specimen, the moderately thorny, upright growth forms a tidy, well‑behaved bush that remains visually neat. As an own‑root plant, it establishes steadily and lives long, regenerating from its base so it stays stable and attractive over the years, rather than exhausting itself. In a 40–50 litre container on a sheltered patio it performs just as reliablely, provided it has regular watering and feeding. Think of its development as a gentle arc: first year building roots, second year fuller shoots, third year reaching its mature, romantic ornamental presence in Your family garden.

Reason
Front garden focal shrub beside the entrance path
Its upright, moderately compact habit and repeat-flowering clusters of pink blooms create a welcoming focal point near the front door, offering long-lasting structure and colour with only light seasonal pruning for beginners
Small border in an average-sized family garden
At 80–130 cm tall with a 55–90 cm spread, it fits neatly into modest borders, filling the space without overwhelming nearby plants and providing a soft, cottage-style effect that suits busy homeowners seeking reliable impact for urban-gardeners
Low-maintenance, long-lived historical rose feature
As an own-root historical rose it forms its final bush shape in place, can regenerate from the base after stress, and offers decades of characterful flowering with minimal replacement needs for long-term-planners
Fragrant seating-area planting near patio or terrace
The strong, sweet rose scent and generous bloom size make it ideal near seating, where You can enjoy the perfume on mild evenings without needing intensive deadheading, aside from occasional removal of spent blooms for scent-lovers
Coastal or exposed garden with occasional Atlantic winds
Good overall health and resilient foliage mean it copes well where damp air and wind can stress more delicate varieties, particularly in gardens that also need attention to heavier soils and improved water movement to manage persistent wetness for coastal-owners
Informal cottage-style mixed bed with perennials
The warm, shifting pink tones blend beautifully with plants like penstemon, eupatorium and creeping thyme, giving a relaxed, old-fashioned look that evolves gently through the season without strict clipping, ideal for cottage-garden-fans
Container rose for patio, balcony or small front space
In a 40–50 litre container with good compost and regular watering, its upright shape and repeated flowering provide a classic rose display where ground space is limited, suiting those who want easy results in tight spaces for balcony-owners
Small group or low hedge of 3–5 plants along a path
Planted 55–60 cm apart, it forms a harmonious, flowering line that guides the eye and gently encloses paths without harsh formality, giving a romantic, easy-care edging that becomes fully effective over its first three seasons for pathway-designers

Name and registration
Trade name FRAU DR. SCHRICKER, historical China shrub rose, part of the Heritage rose collection; ARS exhibition name FRAU DR. SCHRICKER; unregistered cultivar for garden use.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Johannes Felberg-Leclerc in Trier, Germany, introduced 1927. Parentage: ‘Gruss an Teplitz’ × ‘Souvenir de Madame Eugène Verdier’, combining vigorous shrub growth with richly coloured, fragrant flowers.
Growth and structure
Upright shrub 80–130 cm high, 55–90 cm spread, moderately thorny shoots. Foliage moderately dense, dark green, slightly glossy, giving a tidy outline suited to borders, hedges and standard training.
Flower morphology
Large, double, cup-shaped blooms (2.75–3.95 in) with 26–39 petals, produced in clusters. Reblooms well with a plentiful second flush; self-cleaning is medium, so some spent flowers may need removal.
Colour and phenology
Vibrant raspberry-pink with carmine undertones. Buds vivid raspberry, opening to saturated pink, then softening to warm salmon-pink with pearly-cream edges; overall effect uniform warm pink at full bloom.
Fragrance and aroma
Strong, sweet rose fragrance, long-lasting on the bush in normal garden conditions. Ideal for planting close to paths, doors or seating areas where the scent can be appreciated at close quarters.
Rose hip characteristics
Rose hip production is generally low as flowers are double; when present, hips are small, red, spherical, about 8–13 mm in diameter, adding discreet seasonal interest in late season.
Resistance and hardiness
Good overall disease resistance, rated resistant to powdery mildew, black spot and rust. Winter hardy to about −21 to −18 °C (RHS H7, USDA 6b, Swedish zone 3) with moderate heat and drought tolerance.
Horticultural recommendations
Suited to borders, specimen or standard use. Recommended spacing: 60 cm for groups, 55 cm for hedges, 100 cm as solitary. Plant 2.8–3.2 plants/m². Needs irrigation in prolonged drought and occasional deadheading.
FRAU DR. SCHRICKER offers repeat flowering, strong fragrance and healthy, long-lived own-root growth for an easy-care, characterful rose in Your Irish garden, making it a reassuring choice if You want beauty without complexity.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
