ROSA MOYESII 'EOS' – pink wild rose - Ruys
Rosa moyesii ‘Eos’ is a statuesque botanical shrub rose that brings a natural woodland character to Irish gardens with wild grace and reliable structure. Once settled, its deep roots cope well with our moist soils and improve resilience in a climate where humidity often encourages fungal problems. In early summer, it covers its upright, bushy framework with clusters of vivid pink single blooms that gently fade to softer pastels, their golden stamens acting as magnets for visiting pollinators. After flowering, the display continues as striking, bottle-shaped red hips develop, adding autumn colour and seasonal interest for both wildlife and the eye. This own-root shrub builds strength steadily, promising a long-lived, robust presence without complicated care, ideal for hedges, boundaries and naturalistic planting where you want a strong backdrop that still fits a relaxed, cottage-style family garden.

Use cases
Target area
Reason
Front-garden feature shrub
Its tall, upright, bushy habit creates an immediate vertical accent near the entrance, while the once-a-year mass of pink bloom followed by red hips gives a strong seasonal statement with little shaping needed, well suited to the busy homeowner
Wildlife-friendly hedge along boundaries
Planted at 120 cm spacing, it forms a semi-formal, flowered hedge whose summer blooms and autumn hips support birds and insects, giving privacy and shelter without high-input clipping, a natural choice for the nature-loving gardener
Park-style corner in a family garden
Used as a solitary specimen at about 220 cm spacing, it develops into a tall, park-worthy shrub that anchors lawn corners or play areas, offering a long-lived structure that needs only occasional pruning, ideal for the low-maintenance planner
Rural cottage-garden backdrop
Behind herbaceous perennials, its arching, pink-flowered branches and later hips give that loose, old-fashioned charm associated with cottage borders, while own-root growth ensures recovery after harder pruning, suiting the romantic traditionalist
Urban green strip or shared front verge
Good heat and drought tolerance once established allows it to handle exposed kerbside spots, and self-cleaning flowers keep things tidy, reducing upkeep for shared spaces, appreciated by the time-pressed neighbour
Mixed shrub bed with ornamental fruit
Its bottle-shaped red hips in autumn combine beautifully with ornamental grasses and seedheads, extending interest well beyond flowering and providing a dependable backbone for years, attractive to the four-season gardener
Pollinator strip with perennials
The simple, single blooms with exposed stamens draw bees and other beneficial insects, especially when underplanted with echinacea or globe thistle, supporting biodiversity for the eco-conscious beginner
Clay-soil boundary in Irish conditions
Once established, its deep rooting handles heavier soils with sensible drainage and copes steadily with damp, cool weather that often encourages fungal issues, offering long-term structure for the practical Irish gardener

Technical cultivar profile
Property
Data
Name and registration
Rosa moyesii ‘Eos’, a botanical wild shrub rose from the Hybrid Moyesii group; trade name Rosa moyesii 'Eos' Botanical rose Ruys; exhibition name Eos; unregistered cultivar in official registers.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Ruys at Koninklijke Kweekerij Moerheim, Dedemsvaart, Netherlands. Parentage Rosa moyesii × ‘Magnifica’ (Hesse, 1916). Introduced 1950 as a robust, ornamental shrub with strong seasonal character.
Growth and structure
Large, upright, bushy shrub reaching about 200–300 cm high and 150–260 cm wide. Moderately dense, matte, medium-green foliage, moderately thorny stems, and good natural self-cleaning of spent blooms.
Flower morphology
Medium-sized, flat, single blooms with 5–12 petals, borne in clusters. Not remontant, giving one main flowering flush in early summer. Self-cleaning habit means most faded flowers fall away naturally.
Colour and phenology
Solid vivid pink flowers with a lighter halo around the eye; buds raspberry-pink, opening fuchsia with golden-yellow stamens, then fading to pastel pink with a soft lilac veil for a gently changing seasonal display.
Fragrance and aroma
Fragrance is very weak and barely noticeable, so this variety is chosen primarily for its colour, natural form, pollinator appeal and ornamental hips rather than for scent-driven garden compositions.
Rose hip characteristics
Produces moderate numbers of distinctive, bottle-shaped red hips, about 15–23 mm in diameter, which extend ornamental interest into autumn and provide additional food value for birds and other wildlife.
Resistance and hardiness
Fully hardy to approximately −32 to −29 °C (USDA zone 4b, RHS H7, Swedish zone 5). Medium resistance to black spot, mildew and rust; good heat and periodic drought tolerance once established in suitable soil.
Horticultural recommendations
Best in full sun with reasonable drainage; spacing: 140 cm for mass, 120 cm for hedges, 220 cm as specimen. Maintenance moderate; occasional plant protection and structural pruning keep the shrub balanced and healthy.
ROSA MOYESII 'EOS' offers a tall, wildlife-friendly hedge or specimen, strong seasonal hips and flowers, and durable, own-root structure for long-term garden value; you may find it a reassuringly simple choice for your next planting.

Information about the videos
The video series is not a “seasonal showcase”, but makes the essence of pharmaROSA® own-root production tangible: how the plant is built, what the root system is like and how the shoots renew themselves. The footage was therefore taken at different times, showing plants at different stages of development, so mixed leaf coverage or differing growth stages may appear in the videos. This is not a “sample” of the batch delivered, but an illustration of how the technology works. The current condition of the rose available to order — typical of the given period and similar to what you can expect to receive in the parcel — is shown at the top of the product page.
