Polyantha shrub rose, commercial type bedding polyantha rose. Registered cultivar name BOZrubybor, trade names Ruby™ Mella® BOZrubybor. Part of the Mella® collection, marketed for garden and landscaping use.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Dr Olivera Ilić for PhenoGeno Roses (Serbia / Netherlands). Parentage unknown. Breeding year around 2018, registered 2020, introduced 2021 by PhenoGeno Roses as a modern bedding rose for wider European climates.
Growth and structure
Compact, bushy shrub reaching about 35–55 cm in height and spread. Moderately dense, mid-green, slightly glossy foliage with moderate prickliness. Forms a rounded, low mound suitable for borders, edging and container use.
Flower morphology
Single, flat blooms with 5–12 petals, small size (about 0.5–1.5 inches). Cluster-flowering habit gives generous heads of blooms. Remontant, with an abundant second flush and ongoing flowering in suitable conditions.
Colour and phenology
Bright ruby-red base colour with fine whitish-pink striping. Buds deep ruby red, opening to cup-shaped flowers where pale stripes contrast clearly. Colour lightens slightly as blooms age, with striping becoming creamy white.
Fragrance and aroma
No noticeable scent; fragrance classed as unscented. Visual effect and repeat flowering are the primary ornamental values. Suitable where strong perfume is not required or where fragrance from companion plants is preferred.
Rose hip characteristics
