Origin and breeding
Bred by Charles Walter Gregory in the United Kingdom from ‘Mayflower’ × an unnamed seedling. Introduced and registered in 1979 by C. Gregory & Son Ltd., now established as a classic, time-tested ruby-red hybrid tea.
Growth and structure
Compact, upright, bushy hybrid tea, typically 65–95 cm tall and 50–70 cm wide. Foliage is medium-dense, dark green and moderately thorny. Best effect with adequate feeding and regular deadheading to maintain a tidy habit.
Flower morphology
Large, double, high-centred flowers with 26–30 petals, carried mainly singly on stems. Classic pointed buds open slowly, giving good vase performance. Remontant, with a reliable second flush following the main early-summer flowering.
