Hybrid tea rose from the Rosa Orientis collection. Registered cultivar name Wakana, also marketed as Wakana Rosa Orientis Wakana. Belongs to the hybrid tea commercial group and exhibition tea hybrid category.
Origin and breeding
Bred by Takunori Kimura in Japan from a cross of ‘Tineke’ × ‘Princesse de Monaco’. Introduced in 2006 by Rosa Orientis, with initial distribution through Keihan Gardening Co., Ltd. in Japan.
Growth and structure
Upright, medium-height bush reaching about 85–120 cm in height and 50–70 cm spread. Dark green, slightly glossy, dense foliage on moderately thorny stems gives good structure in beds and borders.
Flower morphology
Medium-sized, double flowers with 26–39 petals, usually borne singly on stems. Ball to pompon form, opening neatly and holding shape well. Repeat flowering with an abundant second flush in suitable conditions.
